This is THE true story of "The Big One"

Just finished both Volumes. Wow! These books were amazing. If you want a accurate description of how WWI was then look no further. Much detail, told chronologicaly. In Pershing's own words with tons of letters to back it all up. Each chapter starts off with a synopsis and and excerpt from General Pershing's own personal diary. Can't get anymore factual than this. It will really make you think of how hard it must have been and of how close the Allies came to almost losing the war. These tomes are really very insightful. You will not be disappointed after you finish reading these. You will only want to read more about, 'The Big One.'

I wished we would have read something like this in high school instead of a wikipedia-like knowledge transfer. John's open and clear way of writing gives you as many insights into the errors and horrors of war as insights into camaraderie and friendships. While clearly not unbiased, it is an even-handed report, and the diary entries and letters give live to people and their lives, not dry year numbers and statistics. i found it an interesting perspective to stories and recollections on the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, such as "One Bullet Away: The Making of Marine Officer" by Nathaniel Fick; or "Thank You for Your Service" by David Finkel; or "Dust to Dust: A Memoir" by Benjamin Busch.

Soora Rasouli (Assistant Professor, Urban Planning Group, Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands) has research interests in activity-based models of travel demand, uncertainty in complex systems, and methods of data collection. She is member of the editorial board of Journal of Urban Planning and Development, International of Transportation, Modern Traffic and Transportation Engineering Research, International Journal of Urban Science, and Journal of Traffic and Transportation Planning. She is junior career member of International Steering Committee for Travel Survey Conferences, and member of the Transportation Research Board Special Committee on Travel Forecasting Resources. Her work has been published in Environment and Planning A, Environment and Planning B, Networks and Spatial Economics, Transportation Research A, and the International Journal of Geographic Information Science. She has acted as guest editor for Environment and Planning B, Travel Behavior and Society, and Journal of Choice Modeling. She received several awards for her research.

Harry Timmermans holds a PhD degree in Geography/Urban and Regional Planning. He studied at the Catholic University of Nijmegen, The Netherlands. His dissertation concerned a theory of the functional and spatial structure and the dynamics of central place systems. Since 1976 he is affiliated with the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning of the Eindhoven University of Technology, The Nether¬lands. First as an assistant professor of Quantitative and Urban Geography, later as an associate professor of Urban Planning Research. In 1986 he was appointed chaired professor of Urban Planning at the same institute. In 1992 he founded the European Institute of Retailing and Services Studies (EIRASS) in Eindhoven, the Netherlands (a sister institute of the Canadian Institute of Retailing and Services Studies). His main research interests concern the study of human judgement and choice processes, mathematical modelling of urban systems and spatial interaction and choice pattens and the development of decision support and expert systems for application in urban planning. He has published several books and many articles in journals in the fields of marketing, urban planning, architecture and urban design, geography, environmental psychology, transportation research, urban and regional economics, urban sociology, leisure sciences and computer science.

Esta edición de las Sagradas Escrituras está basada principalmente en la versión Reina Valera 1909. Ha sido revisada y corregida según los más antiguos textos hebreos y griegos, en consulta con los textos arameos de la Peshita y diversas versiones antiguas y modernas de las Escrituras.

El propósito principal de esta versión es restaurar el Nombre Sagrado original del Creador y el de su Hijo el Mesías. Los demás nombres se han dejado como están en las versiones tradicionales. Una excepción a esto es que hemos restaurado el nombre Yah (Salmo 68:4) en los nombres de personas que terminan con “ías”, como por ejemplo, Isaías, que hemos puesto como Isaiah. Eso es porque en la versión griega Septuaginta se sustituyó la h final de esos nombres hebreos por una s; y en esos casos hemos restaurado la h final a su lugar correspondiente. Quienes deseen ver una restauración de todos los nombres hebreos, pueden adquirir nuestra otra obra, Versión Israelita Nazarena, publicada por la editorial El Candelero de Luz.

Una característica sobresaliente en esta versión es que hemos traducido siempre la palabra hebrea Elohim como “Poderoso” cuando se refiere al Padre eterno. Cuando se refiere a ídolos la hemos vertido como “”deidades” o “poderosos”. Hemos prescindido de la palabra española “Dios” por varias razones. Una es porque la palabra “Dios” se ha convertido en un cliché que ha perdido significado real en español. Otra razón es que la palabra hebrea elohím tiene varios significados; se aplica en las Escrituras Hebreas a divinidades, a ídolos, a jueces, a ángeles y a reyes; esto no tiene sentido cuando se utiliza la palabra española “dios”. Lo mismo hemos hecho con la palabra griega theós.

Los pasajes o términos en las escrituras del Nuevo Pacto que ponemos entre corchetes, [ ], es porque han sido añadidos en copias griegas posteriores, del siglo 12, y no aparecen en los textos griegos más antiguos del siglo 4. Pero algunos de ellos aparecen también en la antigua Peshita aramea del siglo 2, por eso los hemos retenido en el texto, aunque entre corchetes. Las palabras o frases que no aparecen en la antigua Peshita, las hemos dejado fuera.

Al final de esta edición puede verse un apéndice con la lista de palabras añadidas; y otro apéndice con pasajes que se pueden leer en casos de necesidades especiales; y una nota explicativa de Juan 1:1.

Hemos puesto cuidado especial en preservar el lenguaje castizo y clásico de la Reina Valera del 1909 pero actualizando un poco algunas palabras que ya no se usan o que no se entienden bien. En consonancia con esto hemos sustituido el “vosotros” de España por el “ustedes” de Latinoamérica. Además, se han hecho algunas correcciones menores al texto tradicional para adecuar esta edición a los mejores y más antiguos manuscritos hebreos y griegos, incluido el Isaiah de Qumrán.

Esperamos que los estudiantes de las Escrituras se sientan satisfechos de tener una Biblia actualizada que a la vez conserva la elegancia del español clásico de la tan apreciada versión Reina Valera.
