Harold Bloom is Sterling Professor of the Humanities at Yale University. He is the author of 30 books, including Shelley's Mythmaking, The Visionary Company, Blake's Apocalypse, Yeats, A Map of Misreading, Kabbalah and Criticism, Agon: Toward a Theory of Revisionism, The American Religion, The Western Canon, and Omens of Millennium: The Gnosis of Angels, Dreams, and Resurrection. The immense and enduring success of the Piano Concerto No. 2, completed in 1901, has made this romantic work one of the most performed and recorded in the concerto literature and one of the most familiar compositions in all of music. The powerful and expressive Piano Concerto No. 3 was composed for a concert tour of America, during which Rachmaninoff appeared with great success as composer, pianist, and conductor. Like the first two concertos, it remains a repertoire favorite in concert halls around the world.
All three acclaimed works are reprinted in this finely made yet remarkably inexpensive Dover edition. Musicians and music lovers will find it a convenient single-volume source from which to study intimately three major works of the twentieth century.

A caveat regarding the First Concerto

Buy this score for the Second or Third concertos, not the First.

Dover has made a serious mistake in reprinting what it claims is a 1960s Russian printing of the First Piano Concerto. The edition here simply isn't the standard version of the 1917 revision of the concerto. At the same time, it isn't the original version, either. Structurally, it seems to be identical to the revised version, but much of the piano figuration (I'm unsure about the orchestral part) is based on the original version. I have no idea how this hybrid came about - perhaps it was compiled from an intermediate version in the revision process, or perhaps it was created by the publisher. At any rate, it's not much use in studying the modern version of this concerto.

Boosey has published the First Concerto together with the Second. This score (ISBN 9780851624440) is excellent, highly readable, and available at a very reasonable price from this site here.

Amazing!

The Rachmaninoff Piano Concertos are among the hardest ever written. This book does a good job of showing the composer's intentions. Its inclusion of the ossia version as well as the simplified version of the solo part helps the reader to compare the two. Also, the orchestra parts are easily read and well spaced. There is never too much or too little on one page. It is a great book for conductors, pianists, or anyone else who loves the Rach concerti. This is a must have for any serious piano concerto fan!

What to say...This book contains the 3 most beautiful peace of music ever written;if you had the luck to listen to them you'll know why. And if you're a musician, you'll want to play them (or at least a part of them, since they're treacherous hard to play..).And what's the best way to fully understand a concert in its greatness, if not the full score? Maybe somebody can think that the notes are a little tiny, but I personally find them perfectly clear, with the ossias, too.

If you're a real musician, you'll love this wonderful product!

All aprendi lat n, historia, filosof a y teolog a. Hacia 1525 entr en la orden franciscana y en 1529 se fue a M xico en misi n con otros frailes, encabezados por fray Antonio de Ciudad Rodrigo. En 1536 Bernardino de Sahag n fund el Imperial Colegio de la Santa Cruz de Tlaltelulco. Desde el comienzo ense lat n all . El prop sito del Colegio era la instrucci n acad mica y religiosa de j venes de la nobleza nahualt. Classic book, one of the marvels of the Mexican (MesoAmerican) contribution to World Civilization and mankind. The Florentine Codex was a series of works on Mexico, its people and their history overseen by Fray Bernardino Sahagun a Franciscan sympathetic to Mexicans and Mexican civilization, if not to their religion. It was written in the 16th century within living memory of the pre-Columbian Mexican Civilization. This printing is hardcover and suitable for libraries and serious students of Mexico. This volume is on the people of Mexico. Fray Sahagun is considered by many to to be the first anthropologist. Fray Sahagun's work is without parallel and this is the only hardcover edition of his work still in print. The English translation is clear and easily understood.

Too hard to enjoy or learn from!

This is book is incredibly hard to maneuver and understand. The chapters are incredibly long and are not organized in a way that is conducive to fully understanding the concepts. There seems to be an overload of information in this book that really isn't necessary to get the general points across. The questions/exercises/cases at the end of the chapter send you on a merry-go-round in search of answers, and in some instances, don't seem to relate to the material in the actual chapters themselves. I am extremely frustrated with navigating this book - and this is coming from someone who has been an accountant for more than a decade. I am able to answer some the questions in this book just based on my work experience and prior undergraduate educational learning, but I think this book would be very discouraging for someone who is trying to get a deeper understanding of what really are some basic accounting concepts. I think if the author/publisher cut out some of the material, this book would be a better educational tool.

The book is described as Financial Statement Analysis, but it really reads like a Financial Reporting book that an accounting major would use. Most of the topics are explained from what seems like the point of view of an accountant. The information is good, just not exactly what I was looking for.

I did enjoy the real world company examples strewn throughout the book of Campbell and Colgate.

Disappointing

Purely based on the information content this is not bad- it's a shallow but wide treatment, which is to be expected when addressing a topic covered by so many different areas of law. But I was immediately struck by the poor organization and remarkable number of editing errors. This appears to have been self-edited and self-published, which would be fine if it didn't read like a rough draft.

For example, the paragraph on page 32 regarding financial information opens with this sentence:

"The GLBA Safeguards Rule requires the financial institutions an information security program that protects the "security and confidentiality of customer information" (nonpublic personal information) by implementing administrative, physical and technical safeguards."

It ends with this sentence:

"Under the Dodd-Frank law, the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which will have powers similar to the FTC's "unfair and deceptive" trade practices standard and a new standard to deal with "abusive" acts and practices."

And the middle of the same paragraph includes a reference to "stated pubic polices".

Even with the worst errors you can typically piece together the authors intent, but it makes for an unnecessarily confusing and unpleasant read. Definitely not worth the price; arguably not worth the time.

Excellent Book!!

Covers all important areas when considering the Cloud as an option. I don't agree with everything but for the most part I do. I'd recommend to other Licensed Information Security and Privacy Professionals.

Basic orientation on the subject, not more

It really is just an extremely broad overview of the discussion on key issues and reference to various sources. You wonder why you would want to spend $67 on it.
