One of the Best Study Guides Ever!

I've been home-schooling for 13.5 years. My children have different strengths and weaknesses. Fever 1793: Novel-Ties Study Guide is, hands down, the best book of its kind I have ever used. It suits my children and the other children who I teach. My only complaint is there aren't more like it for Laurie Halse Anderson's Seeds of America trilogy. More, more!!!

No matter how sophisticated people think they are, even the most loving couples revert to their primitive, or "reptilian," nature of fight-or-flight, according to Ferguson (staff psychologist, Dean Medical Ctr., Madison, WI). Taking both a biological and a psychological approach, he explains how partners can manage challenges to intimacy more effectively if they understand their basic physical reactions to each other. Reptiles in Love- A very human look at the complexities of intimate relationships

This book is an intelligent, humorous, practical and supremely human guide of how to understand and get the most out of being in an intimate loving relationship. I appreciated the complete lack of psychobabble and the clarity with which complex and confusing interpersonal experiences are explained along with practical suggestions to deepen the joy of relating to those we love most.

Disguised as a humorous discussion about bonded couples, Dr. Don Ferguson's Reptiles in Love is a bible of information to build happy, healthy, more loving relationships. What makes lasting couples different from pairs that split? How can couples that seem to have "fallen out" of love bring joy back into their marriage? With years of experience and research in the field of marital and couples therapy Dr. Ferguson gives us instructions. An absolute must-read for anyone who has broken up despite mutual love because of destructive behavior.

Important book

I really appreciate this author for his deep knowledge of human interactions, and capacity to frame things in a way that the reader can relate to. While the book uses humor (occasionally corny), the real meat of it is the way that it asks the reader to put thoughfullness over instinct. "Reptiles" finds a way to keep couples "in the game." I heard the author give a talk a few months after the book was published; he is a really smart guy and made a lot of sense. Worth reading!

A Beautiful, Lyric Poem-Play

"Sterling (1869-19260 was born in Sag Harbor, Long Island, New York, the eldest of nine children. His father was Dr. George A. Sterling, a physician who determined to make a priest of one of his sons, and George was selected to attend, for three years, St. Charles College in Maryland. He was instructed in English by poet John B. Tabb.

Sterling became a significant figure in Bohemian literary circles in northern California in the first quarter of the 20th century, and in the development of the artists' colony in Carmel. He was mentored by a much older Ambrose Bierce, and became close friends with Jack London, and Clark Ashton Smith, and later mentor to Robinson Jeffers. His association with Charles Rollo Peters may have led to his move to Carmel. The hamlet had been discovered by Charles Warren Stoddard and others, but Sterling made it world famous. .

Kevin Starr (1973) wrote: "The uncrowned King of Bohemia (so his friends called him), Sterling had been at the center of every artistic circle in the San Francisco Bay Area. Celebrated as the embodiment of the local artistic scene, though forgotten today, Sterling had in his lifetime been linked with the immortals, his name carved on the walls of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition next to the great poets of the past."

The above is quoted from the excellent article in Wikipedia. Sterling is a long forgotten author whom many would find interesting and significant. The 1926 edition contains an introduction by Theodore Dreiser, itself a classic of its sort. He rightly praises it as a beautiful, lyrical, tragic, truly original poem-play. Set in medieval times, the play is some reminiscent of one of Shakespeare's tragedies.

Dr. Richelieu's affirmations contain a vibrational energy that naturally creates a positive alignment with the Law of Attraction. This is a must buy book.

I rarely rate 5 stars on books that I read - but this book seems to be written for me with a response to ALL the questions & thoughts I'm having about this stage of my life. I've been praying for guidance in making decisions about going forward and this book appeared by Divine intervention. When I read it, I can hear God speaking to me.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to live their real self and for those who have fears which they can't understand and deal with. It's easy reading, practical, and hits the point in a real and timeless way. It has become one of my favorites which I will recommend whenever I have the opportunity.

About the Author

Friends and Family needed direction

I have read the book. It was easy reading, took notes and felt I had a reminder course on my spiritual journey while in this earth existence. I have now shared the book to a family member who also needed a bible while reading the book. We either reminders or awakening. Depending upon the person's level of awareness and/or constant communicating with God/The Creator of All Things; this book will awaken those who are lost and revive those who have forgotten life and living in a spiritual existence which prepares us for eternity. This study guide goes along with the DVD and also the book. You should buy all 3 and not just rely on the DVD and the study guide because the study guide gives you the chapters to read that will relate to the topics at hand for that week. The guide is simple, straight forward and a great resource. Loved this study and it is a short one. Highly recommend

I am currently using this book along with the matching DVD and book while I am teaching an Adult Sunday School class. The class is really enjoying the study and my class size is increasing as others share what we are doing and studying. Rick Warren is fantastic and personable.

About the Author
Author Jim Carter, born and raised in Philadelphia Pa., joined the US Air Force upon college graduation. He served as a pilot in the C-130, the T-38, and the U-2. After leaving the service, he flew for Eastern Airlines for nine years and then for US Airways for 25 years until his retirement as a Captain in 2013. He lives in Raleigh NC with his wife, Debra.

" I loved the book

I have read it cover to cover. Got it on the Jan 5th and finished it on Jan 6th. If it wasn't for my chores and and some meetings, I would have finished it the same day. I couldn't put it down!!

Mr. Carter and I flew different planes; but our Air Force paths were in their own way very similar - the locales of bases (SE vs Mid-West), the housing and family moves (numerous), the squadron camaraderie, the other pilots and crew members (normal and crazy ones), the experiences (war stories), the temporary places (good and not so good), the buying of stuff and filling the aircraft, etc... His book brought back the memories of my own experiences during those same 10 years by touching upon all the aforementioned in enough detail for me to ask, "What's next?" I loved the book!! It is now part of my library.

Not particularly interesting for a U2 book!

This could have been so much more interesting if the editor and publisher had done a better job of the editing process and guiding the writer during the process. All the 'laddish' behaviour could have been left out at no loss. Plus really only the last part of the book was about his U2 missions.

Not bad but could have had more of the book dedicated to the U2

Not bad, but I was hoping for more writing about the U2. Much of the book is spent in his career leading up to flying a U2 and too little is spent on the U2 missions themselves. Could have left out a few of the more "colorful" parts to make it more suitable for the younger reader.
