About the Author

Richard Moore

Richard graduated in 2009 studying video games design at Hull School of Art and Design but has expanded his creativity by working as a web designer/illustrator in Hull, East Yorkshire and London for 3 years. He is very passionate about 3D modelling, level design, concept drawing, web development and graphical illustrations.

He has worked on a number of different projects with clients from different industry backgrounds. A collection of stylish web templates, logos, brochures, business cards, web banners, animated graphics and email marketing campaigns.

Through the clouds lies my passion in video game development. Complete creation of 3D art including modeling, texturing and high resolution rendering. He also dazzles in game documentation and conceptual drawings.

He will always take any opportunity to meet as many different people from the game development community as possible and as a result, I have attended the Games Grads career fair for one consecutive year, participated in the Game Republic 2009 student showcase in Sheffield and Platform 2010, Hulls -1st Digital and Gaming event where I won the award for best character and a cheque for £100.

In March 2011 he was involved in Platform Expo's 2011, Hull's second video game expo where I entered in this year's video game showcase and won 2nd prize for my outstanding contribution to video game design and is now involved in Platform Expo's 2012.

In July 2011 he volunteered as a marketing assistant/designer for an on-line based video games magazine assisting the editor-in-chief in designing templates for latest issues of the magazine, writing reviews on latest video game titles and talking to clients about potential advertising coverage within our magazine and online. In his spare time now focuses on more freelance design and development work with up and coming companies.

As a result, Richard has had some impressive feedback from fellow designers and clients and is very much interested in starting up his very own design company focusing on all the things that he loves. He has the ideas, the drive and determination to put it together. 2011 is the start of something big for this video game designer.

Not there yet

At a quick look at the contents the book seemed a great start. Tutorials in the internet were too advanced and the book promised to deliver a smooth learning curve.
Some chapters after the tutorials were like the "trolling" drawing tutorial a. draw a circle; b. draw the rest of the owl. I am at chapter 5 now and skipped most of chapter 3/4 due stuff like this. Things in the book are not the way they are in the engine. Caution when you purchase this book!

A Good Introduction but some Detective Work Required

Having no previous experience with UDK or 3D graphics in general, I thought I'd give Unreal Development Kit 3 Beginner's Guide a try. The book attempts to teach the basics, from installing UDK to constructing 3D maps complete with realistic lighting, event scripting, and AI pathing. If you've never worked with Epic Games' Unreal Engine before then there's certain plenty to get your teeth into here.

Given the target audience, the book does a very good job of keeping the amount of text to a minimum. Instead, brief step-by-step instructions are provided, along with a generous supply of screenshots. Over the course of the nine chapters you'll work with each of the major tools that UDK's editor provides in order to construct a series of increasingly more complex maps. While you certainly won't become an export, you should feel fairly comfortable using many of the tools come the end of the book.

However, while the content covered is appropriate for the book's intended audience, the instructions provided aren't always as clear as they perhaps should be. This seems to be for a number of reasons. Firstly, a new release of UDK is made every month, leaving areas of the book out of date very quickly. Secondly, by trying to reduce the amount of text, the author sometimes seems to skip over steps that don't always seem obvious to the beginner. Thirdly, the author on occasions seems to forget his target audience, neglecting to clearly explain some of the basics.

These issues are a real shame as they can lead to you being stumped and unable to progress without a little detective work. I found myself relying on Google, or having to find answers on forums on occasions. Many of these issues could have been avoided if the author had simply stated the version of UDK he used while writing the book. Instead he makes the mistake of asking the reader to download the latest version, more or less guaranteeing that there will be differences between what's covered in the book and what UDK now offers.

This is a real shame as I really did have a great time working through the book, and was surprised at just how easy UDK can be to quickly create 3D game worlds. In fact, I often found myself tinkering and experimenting for many hours after reading each chapter. If you're willing to accept its flaws then Unreal Development Kit 3 Beginner's Guide has a lot to offer and will give you the confidence to further explore and to be creative with UDK.

All of this book content can be found free online if you just look hard enough.
Most of it applies to UT3 and UT2004 tutorials because they are most likely to be the same.
UDK was built after UT3 or even Gears of War, so if you look up tutorials on those games, you will find what to do since editors look same and scripting is same (almost)

Can be helpful

Ok, let me first admit I've only read the first five chapters. But, already I can see that his method is based on the fact that you need a certain amount of settlement money to, of course, pay a settlement amount. Soooo, what about those of us who's budget is so tight with paying minimums on cards as well as other necessary monthly expenses, and don't have money put aside for settlement? I don't think the author would have had settlement money either if he hadn't received the $45k gift that allowed him to make the settlements. That's what I would like to know.

The book is not really updated

Just finished it tonight. It says the book was updated to 2012. It really isn't. The whole story happens before 2010, before the CARD Act was passed. It's written more like a novel of what he went through. The book was just ok.

I picked it up about a year ago while I was going through a ruff time getting sunk by one credit card that had been maxed out at close to eighteen thousand dollars during my divorce two years prior. I had been struggling just to keep up with minimum payments and was falling behind, my credit core had gone from a 798 to a 602. I started to use your techniques outlined in the book and in six months I finally was able to settle the debt for thirty five hundred dollars (roughly twenty percent of what I owed). I checked my credit score today, about three months after the settlement was completed, and now have a credit score of 747. This on top of my dropped blood pressure and ability to save for my children's college again has completely turned my life back on track. All I can say is thank you and I will recommend this book to anyone I run into with the same circumstance

C. Clifton Black (Ph.D., Duke University) is Otto A. Piper Professor of Biblical Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary. He is associate editor of The Catholic Biblical Quarterly and Horizons in Biblical Theology and a series editor for The New Testament Library. Black's books include The Eighth Day of Creation: An Anthology of Christian Scripture (2008), Anatomy of the New Testament (2006), and The Rhetoric of the Gospel: Theological Artistry in the Gospels and Acts (2001).

Duane F. Watson (Ph.D. Duke University) is Professor of New Testament Studies at Malone College. His most recent titles include The Rhetoric of the New Testament: A Bibliographic Survey (2006), Fabrics of Discourse: Essays in Honor of Vernon K. Not exactly a thriller, but very interesting for the engaged reader of the New Testament

This book is part of the series, Studies in Rhetoric and Religion (volume 8) and consists of 11 relatively short chapters written by scholars using rhetorical analysis in the study of the New Testament. Each chapter is extensively endnoted, at the end of the book there is a final bibliography of 30 pages which is preceded by an 11 page Curriculum Vitae of George Kennedy, then an index of primary sources followed by a subject index (18 pages of indices). The essays are concerned with the influence of Kennedy's proposal for employing Rhetorical Analysis from classical models in New Testament interpretation. In general the essays tend to summarize their topics, more to whet the appetite for what one might glean from a more detailed rhetorical analysis of specific texts. There is also be a bit of repetition in the "kind words" scholars typically make when assessing another scholar's particular work. Interestingly, the final essay, an Afterword, written by Kennedy himself, I liked the least of all the essays because he made too many assessments of various religious traditions relative to his experience with them, that I found to be (rhetorically) off putting or left me wondering why he had to say this. None the less, the book is a pretty good survey of the impact of Kennedy's appeal to use rhetorical analysis in New Testament criticism and interpretation.

this book rocks. i laughed, i cried, i soared to the stars. overuse of banal cliche added to the overall pithy feel and when graham slowly poisoned his family i laughed til my sides ached. worth the price for one chapter title alone: DYING FOR A CUP OF TEA. guess what he was slipping antinomy into in THAT chapter??

Very Interesting

This book is very clear and didactic, despite the subject is not too simple. The author could explain about aura, double-etheric, magnetism, healing in a simple way and easy to understand. Something concise that makes you think. The kindle version it's ok, well formatted, no pictures. Yet, it's for free!!

Excellent BEGINNER book that explains Auras and Colors! A good read!

Considering the fact that I bought this book FREE on Amazon, I was truly amazed at the helpfulness for a free book. This book is really for a beginner that just wants to understand what an Aura is and about the colors of Auras. It is a very basic book, yet I still found it a very good read and this is why I give this 5 stars without hesitation!

If you are new to the AURA's then may I suggest this book to you are it is a way to learn about auras. Also since it is free, you can read this book FIRST and when you have advanced and want to know more, then go on to one of the more advance books on Auras.
